The most wonderful bike tours

Cycling through Schenna (28km distance | 1,000m altitude difference | moderate)

Schenna – Verdins – Taser – Greitererhof – Egger – Gsteier – St. Georgen – Schenna

From Verdins, the road leads to the Schennaberg farm holdings on to Taser. Turn right shortly before this, then cycle to Greitererhof farm and continue along the hiking trail to Egger. The Meran region is now at your feet. The high mountain trail continues further to the so-called “Rabenschnabel”, where there are a couple of stone steps to navigate, then on through the forest to a clearing with Gsteirerhof farm. Then, take the access road down the mountain through the forest and past a couple of farm holdings before reaching St. Georgener Strasse and Schenna.

Schenna – Hafling – Mölten – Terlan – Meran – Schenna (60km | 1,740m altitude difference | moderate)

This tour takes us from Schenna towards Hafling and on to the sunny Monzoccolo/Tschöggelberg plateau. Continue to 1,140 metres above sea level through shaded forest areas and past the idyllic village of Vöran and then on to Mölten. From there, we cycle down a winding route to Terlan, from where the bike trail takes us in leisurely fashion towards Meran. Then, we once again ascend to the sunny hills of Schenna. The 60km-long tour requires good levels of fitness, but it is a rewarding bike tour around the Meran area.

Schenna – Passo del Rombo/Timmelsjoch (103km | 3,270m altitude difference | difficult)

On winding roads through picturesque Val Passiria/Passeiertal up to Passo del Rombo/Timmelsjoch, this tour takes you past a multitude of points of interest that you will be enticed to stop at and explore. Passo del Rombo/Timmelsjoch is a mountain pass that separates Austria from Italy and takes you into the high mountain world of the Alps. Along the way, we can marvel at rich Alpine meadows and Alpine roses in bloom. Riding past stone pines and barren high mountain landscapes, we arrive at the highest point of the pass. Due to snowfall, this tour is only suitable for the summer months. A tour for seasoned cyclists!

Schenna – St. Leonhard (36km | 200m altitude difference | easy)

Schenna – Riffianer Weg – Saltaus – St. Leonhard – return

The Riffianer Weg tarmac road, which leads off from the village square, takes us down a moderate slope to the Waalerhaus hut in “Labboden”. Starting on a track through the fields and then along the rushing Passiria/Passer river, it leads into the valley to Saltaus, where the valley station of the Cervina/Hirzer funicular is located. The beautiful Dammweg trail then takes us past Passeirer golf course to St. Martin and then below Sandwirt inn to St. Leonhard, the main town in Val Passiria/Passeiertal. We follow the same route back.

Schenna to Tall and back (20km | 1,000m altitude difference | moderate)

Schenna – Verdins – Hofer – Streitweideralm – Videgg – Prenn – Untertall – Schenna

We cycle on the road that leads to Schennaberg mountain, up past Gasthof Hasenegg inn to Hoferhof farm. Right behind this, at the bend, we take the forest track, which brings us to Streitweideralm pasture with a moderate incline. Slightly before the pasture, we keep to the left, crossing Röthbach stream and riding up a short incline to reach the small mountain hamlet of Videgg. The access road then leads on to Oberkirn and passes the cable car mountain station up to Prenn, the main village in Obertall. We stay on the road for another 500m in the direction of Saltaus, then turn left onto route 20, which leads us to Untertall and takes us past several farms to reach Verdins.

Schenna – Zmailer – Schenna (20km | 500m altitude difference | moderate)

Schenna – Verdins – Vallplatz – Holznerhof – Zmailerhof – Schenna

We reach Verdins along the road, then ride past the cable car valley station and on to Gasthof Hasenegg inn before continuing towards Schennaberg mountain on small roads. After about 1km, we turn right towards Vallplatzhof farm and then follow a level route until Holznerhof farm. At the edge of the meadow, the access road then continues to Bergerweg path, which we follow down for a short while before turning left onto a farm road that brings us to Zmailerhof. From here, you’ll get amazing panoramic views of the entire Meran basin. We then ride back to Bergerweg, descending at Gasthof Jägerrast inn until we reach a hairpin bend, where we then cross the hillside above Pension Fungganell inn to reach Rastlhof farm. The road now descends to St. Georgen and on to Schenna.
